![]() So whether you are plugging in holiday lighting in the winter or lawn equipment in the summer, you will be confident in knowing your outdoor outlets are functioning and protected to help keep you and your family safer year round. Leviton offers a full line of weather resistant covers including our NEW Extra Duty While In-Use Covers that are ruggedly constructed from durable, UV resistant thermoplastic to protect outdoor outlets from rain, snow and temperature extremes. This makes them perfect for use with lawn equipment, pools, hot tubs, holiday and landscape lighting, fountains and many other outdoor electrical needs you may have. These covers are designed to allow a plug to be inserted while continuing to protect the outlet. The final step is to make sure that each outlet has a weather resistant cover to protect it from the elements. If all checks out ok, just ensure that the outlet is not loose and the screws are tightened down. Press the “RESET” button and the lamp or radio should turn on. The easiest way to do this is to plug something like a lamp or a radio into the outlet and press the “TEST” button. If the GFCI outlet looks ok, test it to make sure it is working properly. If it does, it is time to install a new one. Next, inspect the outlet to see if it looks worn or corroded. The only exception would be an indoor GFCI outlet feeding through protection to a standard weather-resistant outlet outside the home. If your outlet is not a weather-resistant GFCI, it should be changed to ensure the best possible protection is being provided. An easy way to tell is by looking on the face of the outlet for the letters “WR”, which stands for weather-resistant. The outlet should also be rated for outdoor use. The most often used receptacle-type GFCI, similar to a common wall outlet, is the type with which most. ![]() GFCIs are designed to help protect people from potential hazards of electrical shock by detecting any leaks in current and shutting off power. The outlet should be an outdoor rated GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter). Inspect the current outlet to ensure it meets local building and electrical codes. While you are putting together your outdoor clean-up “to do” list, don’t forget to add an important item: the outdoor outlet check! By using the following steps as a guide to inspect your outdoor outlets, you can help ensure they are shielded from the elements and providing the PROPER protection to you and your family. Yes AFCI's and GFCI's coexist nicely as long as the hot and neutral are truly separated.Spring is right around the corner and it’s time to start preparing your outdoor spaces for the warmer months ahead. Start with the circuits that have the that wiring in place then finish with the newer circuitry. But looking at those pictures I would say get them now. As more building codes are updated the cost does go down. The 2005 NEC requires them for all bedroom and lighting circuits. But it will help keep you and your family safe until you can do the last step. The breakers only protect you if that happens. I have run into this many times doing favors for neighbors and friends. After the insulator is gone a fire is almost sure to happen. The natural expanding and contracting of a house adds mechanical stresses. The rubber dries out and is degraded with ozone and other atmospheric conditions. ![]() That type of wiring has a tendency to crack and cause fires with age. You might want to start adding Arc Fault Circuit Interruptor ( AFCI ) breakers to your breaker box. I've pushed the wires into the holes, tightened the screws, and put a couple wraps of tape around the outlet. Make sure the wires are stripped to the right length- there's a gauge right on the side of the outlet. (And then turn the power off again.) This GFCI outlet has both push-in and screw terminal connectors some old timers (and some new-timers) will only use the screw terminals, but actually, the push-in connectors are more reliable, according to the GFCI makers. ![]() You'll connect that wire, and its white companion, to the LINE connectors. If you can't see the markings on the old outlet, turn the power on briefly, and use your non-contact tester to find the hot wire- that's the one bringing power into the box. ![]() Make sure you know which is which- the old outlet will be labeled, as will the new. One set, labeled LINE, is used for power coming in to the box, and the other, labeled LOAD, for outlets that will be "downstream" of the GFCI, and be protected by it. There are two sets of connectors for hot (black) and neutral (white) wires. The ground screw is connected to the ground wires coming and going to the box. Your GFI outlet has five different connectors, and it's important to know which is used for what. ![]() ![]() Quartz is most commonly found in the Crag Field, Dunes, or Grand Reef biomes, and usually, they're large resource deposits with multiple pieces of Quartz. Otis wrote his brother a letter while he was in jail one weekend, and his brother replied with plans to visit Otis soon. Another episode with Otis is a good example. The friendships on the Andy Griffith show were genuine and honest. It turns out it was the one and only town drunk: Otis Campbell. Then there was the episode where a historical society discovered that a very special resident of Mayberry was the honored descendant of a Revolutionary War hero. Another funny character, Gomer Pyle, had an amazing singing talent that blew everyone away. Remember the Darling family? They looked and acted like a bunch of talentless hillbillies until they played some of the most amazing bluegrass music you could imagine. Three episodes come to mind on the Andy Griffith show where this lesson was clear. Practically everyone has some kind of hidden talent, ability, or something special about them that you would never guess from their looks or personality alone. Watching the Andy Griffith show taught me to never judge a book by its cover or a person by their appearance. If you're from the south, I bet you can relate. They could literally recite the alphabet or read the phone book and leave you with a side stitch from laughing so hard! Sometimes country folks are just naturally funny. ![]() Either from their country-southern drawl or mannerisms, they were just plain hilarious. Living in the South, I've known people in real life who were practically identical to some of the characters on the Andy Griffith Show. Their characters never did a standup routine on the show or told jokes to be funny they were simply hilarious with their delivery and presentation. I also loved the characters of Floyd the Barber and Deputy Barney Fife. Bass how to "act presentable" is comedic gold. "It's me, it's me, it's Earnest T!" The episode where Andy and Barney tried to teach Earnest T. One of my favorite characters on the Andy Griffith Show was Earnest T. Always take the time to find that third side before you rush to judgment.Ĥ. He said that when two people have a dispute, there's always three sides to the story: the first person's side, the second person's side, and lastly, the truth. It reminds me of something often said by my dad, who was also a policeman. He couldn't serve justice with fairness if he was a hothead. After all, besides being the Sheriff, he doubled as the local Justice of the Peace, too. Rather than jump to conclusions or pass judgment too swiftly, Sheriff Taylor always took his time and looked at every angle of an issue. Otis Campbell Photo by Rogers and Cowan (public domain via wiki commons) 3. People who are homeless, down on their luck, or have addiction issues still deserve a little human decency. We could learn a lot from Mayberry today, from the way they treated Otis. He was still deserving of compassion and humane treatment. It didn't matter that he was the town drunk. They cared about Odis and saw his humanity. Although Otis' issues with alcohol made for some funny moments, he was never treated with any less decency than anyone else in Mayberry. After a night of overindulgence, he staggered into the courthouse every weekend like clockwork and locked himself in a cell. He also had a regular routine of getting hammered on the local moonshine. Otis had a regular job at the local glue factory Monday through Friday. Otis Campbell was the perfect character to convey this life lesson. Trying to be anything or anyone different than who you truly are will end up just like Mayberry did when they tried to go Hollywood: a complete flop.Ģ. It's a principle we should all remember: Be yourself and don't be a sellout. The whole town learned a lesson in this episode. The genuineness and small town charm were gone-the very things that had attracted people from Hollywood to begin with. As it turned out, Hollywood didn't like it either. Sheriff Taylor was shocked and disappointed as he walked down Main Street and saw the transformation from a quaint and decent small town to a mock Hollywood. Once the town leaders agreed, however, and word about the movie got out, the whole town went "hollywood crazy." They couldn't imagine that the simplicity and charm of their little town were good enough for Hollywood, so the whole town sold out and tried to mimic the fake glitz and glamour of Tinseltown. When a big shot from Hollywood showed up to film a movie in Mayberry, it took some coaxing from Andy to convince the town council that it was a good idea. I only use the 3d programs (I use Maya) to make a very simple base model to work on as if it were a basic trad sculpture armature. I'm going to work on doing one for Blender as well for the completely free route (using only open source/free software) I did this in Maya but this should work with all main 3d programs. You can take them in to your selected 3d package and put them together like a multi-part action figure to render.Īgain as a note this is just for practise and for proper modelling use regular 3d techniques or build it in zbrush/ use the GoZ feature in zbrush. ![]() ![]() Using multiple models allows you to concentrate and practise if starting out (remember it won't be usable in games/animation really, sculptris is really just an entry level/free flow practise tool but will get you going with digital sculpture/ moving to something like Zbrush). If you can create full models from the base sphere you get from loading a new scene you'll find it can give you an extremely high poly count. But in term of performance you’ll have much better texture paint session in Blender with a retopologised model.I'm planning on writing a tutorial on creating a 3d statue/sculpture with multiple models to build up the overall image using only completely free software but thought I'd start with moving models from Maya to Sculptris just as a starter Īs there isn't the ability to create layers or use zspheres it can be tricky to make a complete figure from 1 base sphere. That’s why if you really want to use Blender to paint, i strongly suggest to learn retopo first, while it’s not hard it takes time. Performance should be bad unfortunately, unless you have a powerfull computer and a graphic card that is very opengl friendly. Once done, go into Texture Paint mode and change the display from wireframe to solid. Wait until it’s finished (you’ll see in the UV/Image Editor) it can take a few minutes depending on how high poly your sculpt can be. Then in the 3D View press U then Smart Unwrap Project (the same kind of Sculptris Blender would do) and at “Island Margin” change the 0.00 to 0.05 to give a bit of space between the UV island (and avoid painting overlapping on them). In the UV/Image Editor click on Image -> New Image and select the color you want by default, 1024x1024 should be the minimum size of the texture you want if you hope to have some nice details, 2048x2048 would be better but depending on how your computer is Blender friendly, it may be very taxing on ressource (and already with a high poly sculpt it will be hitting your computer hard). Split your screen in 2 and change one of the 3D View into the UV/Image Editor. This step is usually unecessary but it’s a trick to save performance when you’ll go into the UV/Image Editor, as by default Blender is extremely sluggish in the UV/Image Editor if the high poyl model is not unwrapped. There with the whole model selected, press U then Project from View. Now unless you have a good computer and a graphic card that is very opengl friendly, viewport performance in edit mode willl be horrible with a high poly sculpt, the best method would be to retopo ( good video tutorial about it there ) to get a much lower poly model.Īnd it’s really recommended to retopo, because Blender Texture Paint mode with high poly model has horrible performance (unlike Sculptris Paint Mode that has much much better performance)īut if you just want to paint on your sculpt without going the retopo path, while being in Object Mode set Blender display to Wireframe mode, Wireframe mode will give you much better viewport performance. In Blender, delete every object you have (the ones you don’t want to keep as importing an obj will not delete what is already there) File -> Import -> Wavefront (.obj) and import your sculpt.
